Rhinoplasty

Rhinoplasty

Rhinoplasty is a highly specialised surgical procedure that enhances both the aesthetic appearance and functional structure of the nose.

Each treatment is carefully planned according to the patient’s facial anatomy, breathing needs, and personal expectations. By combining advanced surgical techniques with medical expertise, rhinoplasty can deliver natural, harmonious, and reliable results.

Before Your Rhinoplasty Surgery

When you travel to İzmir for your procedure, our friendly staff will welcome you to our clinic. Upon arrival, a nurse will guide you to your private room and review your medical history, medications, and allergies. Standard preoperative blood tests will also be conducted.

Please avoid eating or drinking for at least 8 hours prior to your surgery.

You will then meet your experienced surgeon, who will explain every detail of the procedure, ensuring you feel confident and fully informed. Our anesthesiologist will describe the anesthesia process – a safe, painless, and comfortable step to guarantee your comfort throughout the operation.

During Surgery and Recovery

On the day of surgery, you will be gently put under anesthesia. The rhinoplasty procedure typically takes around 2 hours. After surgery, you will wake up in a recovery area with a nasal splint. Thanks to local anesthetics, any post-operative pain is minimal. Small internal splints may be temporarily placed inside your nose, which can feel slightly uncomfortable at first.

Our dedicated nursing team monitors your vitals carefully during recovery. After about 40 minutes, you will return to your room for 1–2 hours of rest. You may have a light meal once fully awake, and your surgeon will visit to review the results and answer any questions.

After Your Rhinoplasty Surgery

You can usually be discharged the same day, in the afternoon or early evening. Before leaving, you will receive:

  • Prescription for pain relief
  • Emergency contact numbers

For optimal recovery and results, we recommend staying in İzmir for an additional 5 days for follow-up appointments and check-ups.

Support Throughout Your Journey

Our patient assistant will guide you to İzmir and throughout your treatment. 24/7 support is available for any questions or concerns. Your comfort, safety, and confidence are our top priorities.

Closed Rhinoplasty

Closed rhinoplasty is a modern, minimally invasive technique that allows you to improve your nose without visible scars on the tip. Using this method, several aesthetic and functional corrections can be made, including:

  • Removal of the nasal hump
  • Lifting of the nose tip
  • Straightening the bridge of the nose
  • Correcting asymmetry in the nostrils

If you also have issues like concha hypertrophy or a deviated septum, these can often be treated in the same session.

How Closed Rhinoplasty Works

The structure of the nose includes the nasal bone, upper and lower alar cartilages, and the central septum. During the procedure, performed under general anesthesia:

  1. Small incisions are made inside the nose.
  2. The upper and lower alar cartilages are repositioned for optimal shape.
  3. The nasal hump is removed using special instruments, without the use of a hammer, and the bridge is carefully reshaped.

Refining the Nose Shape

After reshaping the nasal bridge:

  • Vertical cuts are made on both sides of the septum.
  • Double horizontal cuts are performed on the upper nasal bone to create a smooth and aesthetic side profile.
  • The upper parts of the lower alar wings are refined.
  • Cartilage grafts from the septum are placed along the upper septum to support the new shape.

The nose tip is carefully shaped using a vertical cartilage graft along with stitches on the lower alar cartilages. This corrects tip drooping and nostril asymmetry. The incisions at the nose tip are closed with self-dissolving anatomical stitches, so there is no need for removal later.

Final Steps

To support the internal structure:

  • The lower sides of the nasal bones are slightly cut and adjusted to close the gap in the nasal bridge.
  • Silicone leaflets are placed inside both nostrils for additional support.
  • Skin-colored nasal strips are applied, and a thermoplastic splint is placed on the nasal bridge.

This ensures proper healing while protecting the newly shaped nose and giving you a natural, balanced appearance.

Open Rhinoplasty

Rhinoplasty is one of the most commonly performed procedures in plastic surgery. This surgery aims to address both functional problems and cosmetic concerns of the nose.

The main advantage of open rhinoplasty is that it allows the surgeon to directly visualize all operative steps, enhancing precision and predictability of the results.

Anesthesia and Initial Steps

Open rhinoplasty is performed under general anesthesia. In addition, local anesthesia with epinephrine is administered to provide:

  • Profound pain control
  • Temporary hemostasis through vasoconstriction
  • Easier tissue separation (hydrodissection)

The procedure begins with an incision along the columella, extending into the nasal vestibular mucosa.

Exposing the Nasal Framework

Next, the mucocutaneous flap is carefully elevated, exposing the cartilaginous and bony structures of the nose. Soft tissues are gently dissected from the lower lateral cartilages, nasal septum, and the surrounding framework, ensuring a clear view of anatomical structures.

Shaping the Cartilages

The upper portions of the lower lateral cartilages (LLC) are partially trimmed and reshaped. Remaining segments are sutured to restore symmetry and provide proper support for the nasal tip.

Correcting the Nasal Dorsum

The dorsal hump, consisting of bone and cartilage, is carefully removed. An osteotome is used to reduce protruding components, followed by refinement with a rasp to achieve a smooth and balanced nasal profile.

Osteotomies and Nasal Tip Refinement

Lateral osteotomies are performed with controlled longitudinal cuts along the frontal processes of the maxilla. This step:

  • Closes the open roof deformity
  • Narrows the nasal dorsum
  • Restores proper anatomical alignment

The alar cartilages are then reshaped and sutured to define the nasal tip. Redundant skin at the base of the nose is excised, and fine cosmetic sutures are placed to narrow the nasal base and enhance facial harmony.

Closing and Postoperative Care

All incisions are closed with fine sutures, and intra-nasal sponge tampons are inserted to stabilize the septum and minimize bleeding. Externally, the nose is taped, and a plaster cast is applied to immobilize the nasal bones and protect the surgical results.
